WHAT IS CENADEP?
The Centre National d’Appui Au Développement et à la Participation Populaire is a non-profit organisation created in 2000 in the Democratic Republic of Congo which campaigns for the promotion of equal opportunities between men and women and the respect of human rights in its vision of a truly democratic Congo. Its development approach is based on the mobilisation and support of local communities with the aim of harmonious and sustainable development. CENADEP also aims to promote access to quality basic social services for the populations in its areas of intervention and to support their active participation in the definition and implementation of development policies.
WHAT DOES CENADEP DO?
CENADEP brings together experienced development workers committed to organising and supporting grassroots communities to improve their living conditions and take charge of their own affairs in a sustainable manner. Its mission is to help the agricultural sector face various difficulties such as land insecurity, incoherent agricultural policies, poor financing of the rural world, the very limited number of microfinance institutions and the very limited access to financial services for farmers.
AND MORE CONCRETELY?
CENADEP provides technical and institutional support to farmers’ organisations and supports them by supplying equipment and agricultural inputs. It is also involved in opening three savings and credit cooperatives for family farmes in Boma, Tshela and Nsioni. The NGO is setting up a network of civil society organisations in Boma (Dynamique des Organisations de la Société Civile). Finally, CENADEP supports the structuring of the farmers’ federation FOPAKO (Force Paysanne du Kongo-Central) in the province.
